When investigating the sixth sense of animals, we find behaviors that allow animals to detect and predict disasters and abnormalities in advance. Although there are still many unknowns, it seems that observations and research suggest that animals may be able to sense some kind of abnormality. It may be that some kind of pre-event occurs before a large-scale event, even though humans cannot sense it.
Detection of infrasound and earthquake rumbling
It is possible that animals with excellent hearing can detect minute vibrations underground, such as infrasound and rumbling, that humans cannot detect. Dogs and cats may become restless, want to go outside, or become noisy. Elephants, who can hear infrasound with their feet, may be able to detect seismic waves that travel through the ground, and have been observed to become alert, make abnormal noises, and move around.
Detecting changes in the Earth’s magnetic field
It seems that birds with the ability to sense the geomagnetic field, including migratory birds, may be able to sense changes in the geomagnetic field caused by earthquakes and volcanic activity. In some cases, birds such as crows and pigeons have been known to show abnormal changes in their flying, movement, and singing before earthquakes.

Fish that have the ability to sense magnetism and electricity may also be sensing changes in water pressure and magnetism caused by crustal movements on the seafloor. They may also be seen to jump up to the surface or gather in shallow waters, and other changes in behavior. Frogs also seem to have the ability to react to magnetism, so their large-scale migration may be a sign that they are sensing some kind of abnormality.
Detecting changes in air pressure, humidity, and odor
Insects such as ants, bees, and dragonflies, which are sensitive to changes in air pressure and humidity, may be able to detect abnormalities, including changes in aerosols released from the ground. There have been cases where they have emerged from their nests in large numbers, or have changed their behavioral patterns, such as flying abnormally. In particular, there are stories of changes in the surrounding smell as a sign of a landslide, so if some chemical components are leaking onto the ground, it seems likely that creatures with a strong sense of smell will be able to detect the signs.
Sensing vibrations and crustal movements
It seems that creatures living underground have a high ability to sense underground changes with their entire bodies, and there are cases where earthworms and hibernating snakes come to the surface when they sense changes in vibrations, magnetic fields, and earth currents. In old records from the 300s BC, it is said that mice, weasels, snakes, and centipedes were seen migrating before earthquakes.
Predictive animals are amazing
The behavior of creatures with higher sensory abilities than humans may appear to be precognitive, but it is actually a case of sensing and reacting to preceding phenomena. Since different creatures have different sensory abilities, if they work together, they may be able to respond to many different events. The abilities of precognitive animals are amazing. The variety of information and types of sensing on Earth is amazing.
