The fine structure constant is a physical constant that represents the strength of the electromagnetic force of an atom, and is said to be close to 1/137. There are various theories about it, but it is said that 137 is the approximate maximum number of protons for a stable atom, that the age of the universe is about 13.7 billion years, and so on, in homage to the various things related to the number 137.
